Redbourn Golf Club Achieves the status of Highly Commended in the Golf Environment Awards 2011

The following statement and certificate of Highly Commended was presented to Redbourn Golf Club after the visit of the Golf Environment Awards Panel on 5th October 2011:

"The application submitted by Redbourn Golf Club has been of an exceptionally high standard.  As a member of the Burhill Group, the Club already had an existing environmental policy document to work with however the level of additional documentation and surveying that has been undertaken at Redbourn has far exceeded the ambitions and expectations of the group environmental plan.

The courses at Redbourn offer a broad range of habitats from woodland to grassland through to wetland and water body and it is the attention to detail in the way in which these habitats are managed and provided for on the golf course which certainly makes Redbourn stand out from the crowd.

The knowledge and enthusiasm of Howard Craft is certainly a driving force behind the work undertaken at the Club and the projects undertaken by Howard, Course Manager Hayden and the whole team at Redbourn has from what I understand clearly made a significant impact in recent years.

The bespoke Environmental Policy produced by Howard for Redbourn Golf Club is comprehensive and has clearly been well thought through.  It was great to see during the site visit just how this plan is being implemented and there is a clear vision built into this plan for the future of the golf course.

The Club have comprehensive listings of the wildlife present on site and through regular monitoring are able to observe the benefits of the nature conservation projects that are being implemented at the Club.  As an applicant to the Conservation Greenkeeper of the Year Award, Howard Craft has been an extremely strong contender, indeed I can inform you that Howard's application was down to the final 2 in the judging process for this particular award.  As such and narrowly missing out on an award in the 2011 programme I would urge Redbourn Golf Club to submit an updated application for the 2012 awards.  In the meantime I would like to wish Hayden, Howard and the whole team at Redbourn a very successful 2012 and am pleased to present the club with a Highly Commended Certification in recognition of their work in 2011".
