Nick Ward Smashes Course Record

Schoolboy Nick Ward was the toast of Redbourn Golf Club after setting a new course record.
The 13-year-old, who last month claimed the Under-14 Scottish Stroke Play Championship, carded a nine-under-par 61 to break the previous best of 64.
Despite the strong wind Ward managed a perfect round, not dropping a single shot, making nine birdies and an equal number of pars to beat the previous record held by Tony Mitchell.
The St Columbas College student said: “It’s an amazing feeling to have broken the course record, it’s taking a little while to sink in. I knew after the first nine holes that I was equal to the record, it felt great to keep going and actually break it.”
Ward has only been playing golf for three years but has become quite a dab hand. Playing off a handicap of two he has a national title and now a course record under his belt.
Tristan Hall, Redbourn Golf Club General Manager, said: “The previous course record has stood for two years and to see it broken by one of our promising youngsters is brilliant. Redbourn has established itself as one of the leading clubs for junior coaching in the South East. The fact that we have Jake Craddock, an under-8 European Champion, 15-year-old Will Chambers as our club champion and now a 13-year-old course record holder is testament to that.”
Ward, who described his record breaking round as his ‘best ever,’ took just 23 putts in the 18-holes, a fantastic achievement considering Tiger Woods averaged 28.65 putts per round this year.
